Over time, I’ve developed a significant appreciation for the peace and solitude that only the most remote and extreme places in nature can provide.
As has been tradition for a few years now, I recently spent a few weeks in the middle of some arid dirt patch in Nowhere, USA where I was able to gather my thoughts on a few things.
During this trip, one thing I reflected a lot upon the concept of being “average,” especially after a recent interaction I had on the bird app following this tweet:
At a first glance, the above tweet would make you think “Fuck, I AM average, my life is done.”
However, I am not some black-pilled doomer, so I need to make sure that all of you understand the following very clearly.
YOU ARE NOT A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE.
YOU ARE THE CAPTAIN OF YOUR LIFE.
Something BowtiedBull/WSP have said going back years, and one of the founding principles of the Bowtied Jungle, has always been that you CAN have an impact on the trajectory of your life, and you CAN achieve things through hard work.
Seriously, just ask any of us in the community. All of us know from personal experience that your life can change overnight, just as long as you put in consistent effort to do something different than what you’re doing now.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different result.
Einstein
Said in a different way, your life today is a byproduct of all of the choices you’ve made over the past X years.
If you want your life to be different, then simply, choose differently.
Being average is not something static, it’s something you choose every waking moment over and over again.
Take a step further, if you don’t want to be average, do the exact opposite of what the average person does, and you’ll be well on your way to something entirely different.
